报告题目:RECONSIDERING TURBINE COOLING WITH A COMBINATION OF PERFORATED BLOCKAGES AND A PIN-FIN ARRAY

Effective cooling of turbine blades in a gas turbine allows for higher temperature combustion gases to interact with the turbine stage, which in turn increases the engine efficiency. The sequential combination of perforated blockages and a pin-fin array – a “blockage pin-fin” configuration - is confirmed to have a thermal performance superior to an empty channel but inferior to a conventional pin-fin array with a similar number of pin-fin rows. This blockage pin-fin configuration does, however, exhibit unique cooling characteristics that may make it a viable alternative in particular applications where a limited internal space at the trailing edge is available for multiple rows of pin-fins and/or the oncoming cooling flow is unevenly distributed along the span of the pin-fin array. This study showcases the effective utilization of the blockage pin-fin configuration in the trailing edge of a gas turbine blade. 

报告人简介:

Sjouke Schekman undertook a BSc degree in Aeronautical Engineering, completing it in 2010. He subsequently completed an MSc degree in Engineering in 2015 on aircraft aileron design. A PhD degree was completed in 2024, investigating gas turbine blade cooling configurations. All BSc, MSc and PhD were from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa. While his MSc, he began work in 2012 as an Associate Lecturer for the School of Mechanical, Industrial and Aeronautical Engineering at the University of the Witwatersrand. He was promoted to Lecturer in 2015 and Head of Design in 2020.
